I was wondering a long time ago about a similar situation involving some bibles. Didn't burn the books, made a slightly different choice. I just threw them in the trash. Looking back I think there might have been a few better options. I would suggest either ripping each page and crumpling it as part of a ritual (thus preventing anyone from saving it from its fate) then giving that pile of paper for recycling or if you heat your residence with a wood burning stove or fireplace just getting some calories from the damn thing. Maybe use it for packaging fragile items or anything that needs paper really. You could make a slurry out of it than let it dry on top of something to make a sculpture. I know that's not what you had in mind but think about it. What would burning books accomplish apart from polluting the atmosphere and producing some warmth? It may as well be used for something and you get to destroy it in the process. That's all I could think of from the top of my head. I'm sure you can think of many other uses for unwanted books.
