I noticed that there is a difference in how it is explained on the site versus how it is explained by Satyananda and others who can more or less relate to his lineage.
On the site we have an exhalation that starts with the contraction of the belly and ends with the contraction of the upper chest. Satyananda on the other hand, first teaches abdominal breathing then “chest” breathing and then “clavicular” breathing. And after that, combining these three breaths he makes the belly start during inhalation while during exhalation, contrary to the site, he says first to empty the upper part and then the lower part.
I wonder then is there a specific reason for this difference?
I have tried both methods but can't really tell the difference, perhaps it is more natural to empty the belly first though.
I have also used as a comparison an author who seems unrelated to Satyananda's teachings, Coulter. He teaches abdominal breath, thoracic breath and diaphragmatic breath ( In addition for the latter he teaches to strengthen the diaphragm, in the crocodile pose or with a sandbag, which is much more effective than what Satyananda teaches, plus his book is entirely based on science). After that, and after advising (in my opinion very rightly and prudently) to train for a few months with equal and smooth inspiration and exhalation for a count of two in the above styles, he teaches the full breath, but without following an order, i.e., he simply says to inhale to the utmost of one's capacity and exhale to the utmost of one's capacity.
I'm confused, maybe someone is knowledgeable enough about pranayama to help me get clarity.
