Always breathe through your nose, unless doing specific pranayama that requires breathing through the mouth. Get in the habit of long deep breathing from your diaphragm if you aren't already breathing like that, even in daily routine breathing (sitting at desk, etc).
Why is it better to breath through the nose instead of the mouth?
I read somewhere that when you inhale/exhale the base of your spine extends/contracts and this process has something to do with the release of cerebral/spinal fluid as it relates to meditation. And that this process has something to do with the physical properties of why yoga/breathing exercises are so therapeutic and beneficial. As the fluid somehow cleanses the body/brain.
Does the nose breathing activate a different set of bodily functions or something?
Cos I feel like I can breathe in more air with my mouth, and I assumed that wud correlate with the amount of energy being involved.
Through the nose, as the High Priestess Lydia wrote.
You need to be able to breathe properly both through your nose and through your mouth, breathing exercises in yoga can be very useful, including for your health, I recommend that you master breathing exercises.
