His real name is John Baharudin of Sorobaya (also known as John Chang, Dynamo Jack, Magus of Java and Electric Eel man as he wanted to keep his privacy throughout the years without revealing his true identity). As it was mentioned in comments before, he died February 5, 2020 at age of 85 due to a fall and internal bleeding in his brain (not officially confirmed). He was an Indonesian healer who first came into public view when he appeared in “
Ring of Fire: An Indonesian Odyssey (S01E03) – East of Krakatoa (1988)” (timestamp: 00:22:43), a documentary filmed by two English brothers Lorne and Lawrence Blair. He didn’t know that the film would be distributed publicly and was angered when he found out. The whole documentary series was a great success, won Emmy Award in 1988, so naturally the crew begged him to let them come back and film more of his abilities, but John refused.
Seven years later he contacted the crew and agreed to be filmed. His second appearance was in "
Myths, Magic & Monsters (S01E01) - Superhuman (2006)" (timestamp: 00:34:11). At the very end of the program he would be seen losing his concentration on original goal and showing off in public. As the result, one of the guests was harmed and later John would be dreaming of his raging master. After the incident, till his death, he had remained hidden from the public.
One of John's apprentices, mechanical engineer and martial artist named Kosta Danaos, was able to take what he learned during his apprenticeship and write two books. The first one,
The Magus of Java: Teachings of an Authentic Taoist Immortal, and the second,
Nei Kung: The Secret Teachings of the Warrior Sages. He was able to provide scientific explanations for the pyrokinesis, telekinesis, levitation, telepathy and other paranormal abilities he witnessed.
In 2019, Lawrence Blair shared some memories about John in YouTube series called
EE's Adventures
