INTRODUCTION:
This article is to summarize the important dates and time said by my teacher in Taoism training. It is possible that they are others unknown to me that can be traced on internet. I put his notes in quotes this time.
GENERAL PRINCIPLE :
In general It is night before pillar day starting at rat hour 11 pm to 1 am that is used for training.
EG: if feast winter solstice is 21st we train 20th between 11pm to 1 am.
CALENDAR :
I have already given tips to trace the pillar (heavenly stem on terrestrial branch) in my article on gong sun day, 7 park training. Chinese software do help but up to now I haven’t found any to find specific pillars in future or past.
GENERAL :
garb is heavenly branch of yang wood (garb is 1st of the 10 elements, tiger is 1st month), gong is yang metal. He is saying that we can practice in these days the training of 3 wun, 7 park, 3 worms apart the specific dates corresponding to these training. Remark that the pillar days are exact opposites (conflict terrestrial branches and heavenly stems), i doubt it is a coincidence. Particularly when we know general residence 7 animal are lungs /metal and for 3 higher spirits liver/wood. Lower spirits and higher ones are opposite. Day of fate is talk further down and is pillar year birthday
No details, it is about qi men dai jia and could be anything (doors, heavenly and terrestrial branches, spirit, gods.) But once he said hidden door is used for meditation therefore they must be a special door for breathing training.
rat hour, this info was in a section of guarding the one training (recycling jing or semen). Pomping breath/jing up is similar to fire breathing and increase fire therefore boiling, no motion as concentrate on crown help avoiding loss jing. This idea do not work everytime. Particularly with partner, pressure is on your body (union) and even if not moving like in figthing it is the moment at starting breath that you are the most vulnerable and usually loss. For me it is more efficient controlling fire by slowing rythm breath and motion as concentrate on crown since speed breath and motion has increased (related to fire), you play with a time for speed one for slowing, time for deep a time less deep. it is a type of holding the breath full. I apply it too with aura. Remark that rabbit is the prime of wood element which is tied to wind, air. Interessant relationship.
It is what is called in 4 pillar system the 3 combination (gokes) : birth prime death of water. Details of practice here were also in section training guarding the one and imply use that day training more for it for more efficiency. Note the idea vaporizing water (jing) by fire and bringing it to crown. Often in taoism comes back idea of mating polarities (fire/ water ,heaven/earth...), the question is were to bring the resulting air and what for. Energy /chi built by the union of opposite must go somewhere and be programmed.
If you search on internet, some terrestrial branches represent more than one element with a different degree of power. Eg: dragon is also wood and earth.
You must combine 3 pillars to have the rigth time. Which pillars ? Year month day is one way to see it. But what if there is no dragon rat or monkey year ? Do you loose your chance ? Unsaid but there is the personal 10 years cycle too. The reason i may limit at these 2 options are the way my note is written. Training were nearly allways with my teacher at rat hour. But there is an other possibility. My note could have been written in winter time which imply choosing the strongest hour rat, peak of water. BAsed on magic, I believe for my part that rat hour is not mandatory since general concept is closest period is strongest than the next. Eg: flying star for hour compare to month to year. Year may say that direction is bad, month so so, hour good. Un said but we can deduct teh impact of which terrestriabl branch is at hour. Eg : prime is used to use / cumulate max water, birth is something to begin tied to water, burial is to keep treasure cumulated tied to water .
So choice are :
- Choose either monkey, rat or dragon year then search 2 others in month , then one left in day. Eg : monkey year so in rat month find dragon day. Always rat hour practice
- Same principle, if none in year, check your personal 10 years cycle.
- If you decide rat hour training is not mandatory, we have combo 10Y Y M; YMD; MDH
- But there is no precision if they must be following périod of time, so we may have YDH, YMH, 10Y DH, 10Y YH etc… DIfference will probably be on the efficiency. Closer will be more impact.
But there are other combinations of elements. Has he forgot them or was it too obvious ? As westerner, we look impact of planets to have greater effect : hour for saturn will have more impact for saturn training like 1st chakra than saturn day or saturn month. Naturally the more times correspond more impact will be. Specialist astrologer will go even more in details to see impact (delibated, combustion, retrograde, planets combos, all these associated with your fate set up…). In case chinese divination, any thing associated with fire wil be weaker in a water section (9 flying star, qi men dai jia),and even more in winter season (water). This is why, even if you choose the direction of a good or bad door impact can be reduced or inceased. In one word, we can apply the technic to oher elements.
- Fire : tiger horse dog
- Wood : pig rabbit lamb
- Metal : snake roster boar
- Earth : lamb dog boar dragon imply 4 period of time to use. It is here more complex since it is burial of all élément . Usually tied to fire for the life cycle, we only have here burial dog.
june is in spring, fire time, fire destroy metal so we wanna protect the new born baby. Bathing position is a stage of life of an element , once the baby is out we clean it before passing it to the mother. Color will change with element trained
- Metal birth is snake, bathing is horse, use color white
- Water birth is monkey, bathing is roster, dark blue
- Wood birth is pig, bathing is rat , green
- Fire and earth birth is tiger, bathing is rabbit (means 2 training) = red or yellow
spring equinox is wood season, heavenly branch are cantonese garb (yang wood) and yut (yin). Tiger and rabbit are terrestrial branch of wood. The best time training to get wood chi, is n its season wood, use strongest hour (rabbit = 5 to 7) and direction (east) and the days found in season. More wood association better result training..
Logicly switching season imply doing the same. EG : winter season (water) face north, yin water on pig day and yang water rat, rat hour training. See in summary psection how to find pillar.
It is ok for 4 seasons but what about the in between, the earth time ? We would use lamb since it is strongest earth lamb (fire season is snake horse lamb, fire gives birth to earth) , face S-W, which earth day is best yin earth on lamb or boar ?. For me response is on lamb since earth is frozen in winter (boar part direction water and earth has no strength), yang earth on dragon or dog ? My choice will be on dog since wood direction kill earth. After all, A mother is more protected by his kid (metal). These are my conclusion but i cannot check it.
you understand that if all start at 1st element (wood) and 1st terresrial branch rat (start brighter yang/sun , starting rising energy in spine) that we magicly may see that day as the best time to start anything in life, even if he never talked about magic.. (starting a project, etc…).
Following that ideah garb horse is start of yin (finishing, getting rid of…). There is also 6 yang wood, it may also be seen as 6 beginning of the force on which they sit (garb rat, garb tiger, etc…
south is fire and day yang, water kill fire, my guess it offends the energy of fire so he want to hit you back .
North is water, nigth yin. so ice. Apart idea of polluting same element, how can it exit when ice stop flow out ?
As for #2 the only idea i got is earth/solid destroy water, it follows idea #1 of offense in day. Why facing south/fire is not bad for #2 ? Well, a kid cannot offend her mother. Still following that concept, what impact is doing #2 on direction earth ? None, earth is the only one that make stronger earth.
But these is probaby based on placement object in rooms in fong seuil. Asiatic f will even say which direction must have a hoven ,fridge, mirror , bed. It may look more superstition so impact is not that strong.
concept seen in taoist articles is stay conscious as mutch can to avoid loosing shen. Training were developped to call back jing, replenish it, same for chi. But in case shen, i haven’t yet found anything on developping and replenishing it. Only the Call back is taked about that can be resume as not forget who you are at any instant, what you do why you are doing it and where you are, in oneword call back attention/focus here and now. Saint (hsien) are used to that, this why one of their power is lucid dreaming, their body sleep, never their spirit.
You can understand the concept easily : you work, and idea/emotion/though come , you follow the trail and loose consciousness/awareness of yourself, of time and what you are doing, even where you are. We may call it dis-traction, loosing contact, being out of phase. with here and now. New age and judaism want you to fusion and loosing yourself in the fusion, ask you to use more right brain then left. But the two must be practiced. Fission, dissociation, not participating is as important.
When we think about the concept it looks ike myamoto mushasi; if look close look far, if look far look close. A little like janus statue, be one and not one, be not one and be one. I remark if i focus only on me or the object seen, mind wander, and after dreaming state start. But if my focus is empty space between me and the object, it seems easier for me to stay present. Could this be the real reason why taoist say to focus continuously on tao, or emptyness ? A hidden training for shen.
Other example, If for fun you jump in air and fly, see someone that is dead talking with you, looking at a picture that start to move and talk to you , will you be aware enough to ask yourself is it normal , where am I, am i dreaming ? We have to understand that we lack all awareness at different level and that if we want to learn one day higher technics we need to develop it. Will you give a detonator of a nuclear bomb to a kid that by lack of awareness can click the wrong button ? Therefore we have to act, train and call back shen all the time.
he put this info in timing training section. Why is there so much emphasis on 3 dan tian if centerline have for us 7 chakras ? The theory of 3 word could be an explanation (heaven earth hell). After all the emplacements of the 3 dan tian are at the center of them (3rd eye between crown and throat, 1 alone and prostate between solar and perineum), so we can presume they are the big administrator of their region
In taoist magic, the 3 dan tian are used to charged talismans, energy is pass by them first . We may deduct that they can be used also to charge apart talisman a chakra or any cbject (in invocation)
for teacher best time to meditate was always rat time. The reason is simple we want to cumulate in us yang forces and in daily cycle rat correspond to time when dailight/yang increase like in cycic nature (winter solstice = rat). Meditation for him is not mantra nor visualisation nor breathing, it is microcosmic orbit that happen naturally by itself by using empty mind (trance or full yin/nigth/empty). He had also the concept that a saint (the goal) is totally yang, a ghost is totally yin. Chinese ghosts or vampires rob yang energy / life force not blood like westerners. But you know that blood contains vitality/life force and is used in blood magic. It is also an old symbol. Commoners in the past will understand more sucking blood (in battle loss makes you weaker) than sucking energy.
Fook yum is cantonese name to say mandarin fuyin. In 4 pillars system it means 2 pillar the same, in kay moon / wonderful doors system called qi men da jia, it means earth and sky disk are the same (same heavenly branch elements).
Rat is peak/prime time of water.
imply check 10 000 calendar for exact dates of feast, like i already said winter solstice is not as westerner allways 21st december. He explain here difference between strenght solstice, equinox and beginning season feast.
South hemisphere impact in training and time wasn't talked about since all students were in north one. Even on internet they are not clear about the impact in divination system.
Rat hour is time where energy is at nivel sex. Usually, as men sleep they erect and may have a nocturnal emission. This is why he preferred for training midnigth to 1h instead 11 to midnigth and right away go to sleep at home. For efficiency meditation must last one hour.
SUMMARY TIMES :
Rat hour => pure meditation
Monkey rat dragon => for water training
rabbit hour => for a type of breathing
tiger rabbit hour => meditation
3 worms => gong sun day (metal on monkey)
3 wun => on 3, 13,23 lunar day calendar of each month.
7 park => new moon (see nothing) full moon (15) crescent (1/4) half moon.
8 feast days => solstice and equinox (rat rabbit horse roster) and beginning season (pig tiger sanme monkey) are strongest time to train an element.
Garb tiger days =.> same training gong sun days
4th of each (case of June 4) bathing position => Protect what season hurt
Garb rat days => beginning a cycle
Chong days => opposite day to year day pillar
All pillar must be just yin or just yang , 2025 = yin wood on snake (yin) so opposite is yin metal on pig (yin too) . So search these dates in calendar.
For polarities, just follow order terresrial banches, after yang follow yin and after yin yang. Start by tiger, tiger is yang next rabbit is yin, etc . In chinese
divination it is going against the general therefore you are weaker. Note that sites apply this to month and hour pillar too .
the Anniversary birth year date => meditation, stay calm,technic of 8 feast. Is day pillar sanem as pillar birthday year
Ex, born in 1968 ,pillar year is mo (yang earth) monkey , search all of Mo monkey days …. It was 4/12/1991 next is 2/2/1992, 1/6/1992, etc…
Real birth day (once a year) => western day one , EG born april first

Zi wu mao yu are mandarin for rat horse rabbit roaster . If you remember site articles, musulman at this time do their prayer facing the cube instead of the sun. Mulsulman is dawn, sunrising, noon, afternoon, sunsetting, nigth but not midnigth (rat). Depending centuries, catholics has same ideas plus midnigth 4 of theses correspond to prime season which are a specific time of the sun which explain variant of facing in the day (sun facing = direction prime element). ? Dawn, 1st ligth before sun appear(sunrise) is as i remember a crucial time for meditation , brahma muhurta, preparing for yang ( real day). Dusk (before sunset ) will be then a preparation for nigth time (rest, yin, conserve gains of days).
Apart that It is just interesssant to note that 3 to 5 is dawn, tiger, birth of fire, then horse mid-day is prime fire 11 to 1, dog is 7 to 9 burial of fire.. Sun being tied to fire, is this a Hasard ?
As for 24 nodes they are the 24 feast. Teacher said we may face their corresponding direction instead prime of season. But no detail of specific practice.

I am just pointing this because it may be tied to 7 chakra 2 knots. The day given is JIA ZI meaning yang wood on rat . And most intéressant part, it is the prayer has to be done before entering mountains. One main mountain is usually the spine like mount meru of hindu but when we talk more than one in a country it implies they represent chakras, same with cities. Remember that 6 garp (wood) 6 ding (fire) imply 12 terrestrial branches which are also placements on microcosmic orbit
Next image in article shows and order of chinese phrase starting right to left top down which is clockwise of the square SE S SW W…. to finish at center. There is variant for 2 chinese character probably due to communist simplification of chinese writing, case is in SE and SW. I interpret also the phrase as : when face weapons, put together people, place each in troops and rows formation for their future motion or as : energy as a weapon is seen put in each chakra then program (spell) putting them in order/row (chaos if no program) for the future use.
We may see it as instruction of meditation but also as mantras to repeat before acting with each chakra (repeat before entering each montain) . If we are fency, due to taoist associations (flying stars divination , saturn square,etc) center is earth, 8 others are either the 8 gwas or the classic direction( I put in square in parenthesis). Remember east is in the back. Earth is center of all (therefore spleen chakra or middle dan tian) and in between seasons (imply N = 1st chakra ) so earth is to be place between seasons and final is 3rd chakra.
Remark the motion of spiral to center : it may have been back 6th chakra SE, crown S, earth /3rd eye, throat, heart, earth /solar, etc…. Each 2 is earth . The fun part is that on body 3rd eye, solar plexus and back sacral are here earth (horizontal line 3 dan tian, remember that they mix 3 and 4th chakra often. ) And the rôle of the 3 dan tian are reserve of specific energy (jing chi shen). Since there is 4 seasons they are 4 earth, the other one is at back throat.. The sequence of letter is therefore : lin bin HANG dao zhe HANG jie zhen HANG lie qian HANG finishing in middle dantian HANG. Since The in between seasons are the burial /tomb where you put the treasure of of the dead (element combination birth prime tomb), Is it a place in body to put reserves of energy eg back sacral/ boar will be to place metal , throat to place water 3rd eye wood, heart fire ? It could be a clue to an other training

In this t book page 111 you have mudras corresponding and some seems to be identical to the ones used by japanese in kuji juri. There is many variant in the 9 kuji kuri mudras . For sure 8th and 9th are the 8th and 9th of kuji kuri zai and zen. 2nd incantantion is 1st kuji kuri, 3rd is 2nd 4th ? not visible toh ?, 5th is like kai but thumbs pointing front, 6th as jin (look change with flexibility) is quite close. What seems different is 7th (looks like garuda mudra) unkown 4th and partial 1st (we do not see thumb and index). What is important to remember is that kujikuri are assigned to chakras and 2 extra places. Zai and zen depending schools do not correspond to chakras. As I remember the subject of kuji kuri was already taked in forum. But the main idea to remember is that these taoist letters like kujikuri correspond to 7 chakras, and the 2 extras probably the 2 knots. Since shoulder are tied to 4th chakra, a general connector, it is probably temples and hips are more important . Tendency new age was to follow order kuji kuri bottom up to decide which chakra goes to a kuji kuri, it is to check then the placement with the 2 knots
To finish 9 japanese kuji kuri got comments that letters do the same sentence and that they are from taoist before being altered by buddhist. Since their mudras depending the school or new age are assigned to chakras and following the knowledge on forum and site, strong chance these are for 7 chakras and 2 knots. Do we follow order down up ? If so, which knot is not included ? My idea is shoulder because they are just a connector. The assignation of the 9 letters with planets seems to confirme my theory. It includes lunar nodes which by my understanding are rahu and ketu, 2 opposite placements, rahu is hips, ketu temples.

CONCLUSION :
As western magic you have correspondances for best time action in taoist training, chi kung, health.
Taoist Magic also put emphasis on 6 yang wood and 6 yin fire training. Th 6 garb and 6 ding are also important in practice but teacher never detailed them. Basicly you put garb as yang spot starting with tiger followed by ding in order terrestrial animals. EG : yang wood on tiger next ding rabbit next garb dragon. They are gods, goddesses and generals assigned to them ,talismans, mudras and magical practices on these days, and a general prayer .
It is possible like in our western magical system that focussing on their corresponding spot on body and calling them may serve to empower that zone as we do. Eg marduk is god of jupiter, jupiter is crown chakra , so best training is at jupiter hour and use mantra marduk on crown chakra (on site and forum) . So YYYY god/general of rat would also imply mantra YYYY put on perineum zone or 1st chakra. Note that we haven’t yet decide if its possible or not and what god names can be used. But each civilisation would logicly have their own god names to vibrate.
If you search on internet , based on 8 pillar system they have specific days for social actions too (moving of house, appointments, be pregnant, etc…
What is not said but seen in ayanist, yin hours are for demons calling, yang hours for gods calling. (nigth and day) . Following principle of yang hours and yin hours, it may imply for yang hours we should train more the back line chakras which is yang, and choose point corresponding (energy is there depending hour) . As was pointed up the gods have a ligth side and dark one. It may explain in goetia night and day daemon, each god/ess having more a side affinity
Although this is only my theory, chinese hours system may have been corrupted as western one (fixed hours day and nigth = 24). In the past all countries used a sun dial for time. We do now use as westerner and on forum magical time , eg : Tuesday ,sunrise 6h05 is starting day do 1st period of 50 minutes is mars. Depending longitude and latitude rising sun day change. Why chinese do not so anymore ?
2 version exist in their system of divination. The difference is only if they use real sun time birth hour of place of the person or not but still within 2 hours period which is not real in sundial. If we add chinese magical hour (eg: rabbit period will be 1h45 minutes instead 2hours) implication may affect all understanding of chinese magical time training., the real timing of circulation of chi in meridians , divination and fate reading . Only experts could figure out if it is a corruption or not..
For info Chinese kept fixed time in calendar starting with rat (11pm to 12h59). What change is element heavenly branch depending day instead planet. Still 5 elements = 5 planets. The one missing is sun and moon (day and nigth). Since their whole calendar is based on jupiter, I guess rules change. As i remember these are based as post-natal. Note that in their system (wikipedia) sunrise is rabbit time, sunset roster. Therefore we would divide in 6 the sun time.
