I've been reading some books on yoga, which are generally good, but one teaching has me a bit puzzled.
These books preach that we must learn that we are not the body, but the soul, and that we must learn to separate the two, not considering ourselves the body, but the soul that inhabits it, one of the books I read also gave meditations for this, in general, all focused on you visualizing you as a soul, to understand that the body is just the place where you live, not you.
In theory, they seem interesting teachings, but in practice, it made me restless, here on the forum, it was constantly said that the goal of Yoga is a union of body and soul, physical and spiritual, and that the body is necessary and part of who we are.
This makes me think that these teachings of separating body and soul are corruption, they seem to me an attempt to inferiorize the body and place the soul as the only one necessary for evolution, on the other hand, this separation makes sense, because having the awareness that one is the spirit, not the body, the control over the body and its desires increases, because it is understood that it is not your desires, but the body's desires.
Opinions ? Can someone address this better ?
