Hello and greetings to my fellow SS,

I have a question for those who know about Sanskrit, I’d appreciate it if you guys can help me with an answer here.

So, the other day i was talking with some Hindus and they brought up the Aum mantra and they say they pronounce and vibrate it as Om((corrupted of course)) and i explained to them that its Aum and they were tried to reverse things here.

Lol they said “spiritual knowledge has been corrupted and watered down, aum is the wrong pronunciation and ohm is right”.

The JoS knows ohm is incorrect and if they had decent sensitivity they would know Aum is correct and ohm is power less right.

But the point they brought up is what they referred to as “sandhi rules in Sanskrit” that makes the AU pronunciation into an O sound.

I know Aum is correct and that they’re wrong of course but what is the proper thing to say here to inform them otherwise? as in regards to the Sanskrit language and the correct pronunciation of the word.

I told them that Aum is the tri syllable word and that ohm is monotonous and wrong but they told me i dont have any facts to prove them that om is wrong.

I know that debating over this subject with Hindus who are really brainwashed with their corrupted form of spirituality is pointless sometimes but im just looking for the proper response here, if anyone can help.

AUM is the trinity mantra, it can't be OM with 2 letters, it needs to be 3.
According to the Vayu Purana, this mantra is the representation of the Hindu Trimurti and represents the union of the three gods, viz. A for Brahma, U for Vishnu, and M for Shiva. The Bhagavata Purana (9.14.46-48) identifies the Pranava as the root of all Vedic mantras and describes the combined letters of AUM as an invocation of seminal birth, initiation, and the performance of sacrifice (yajña).

It is clear that aum is the oldest pronunciation, since all languages evolve simplifying themselves (the diphthong AU has systematically simplified into O also in the passage from Latin to Italian for example).
Sandhi rules have value within the spoken language, but it makes no sense to apply them to vibrations that do not require any simplification. The simplification of the spoken language is fully justified by the fact that it is useful to make conversations faster. My opinion is that this is not even an intentional and malicious corruption, simply the language has been simplified and those who had spiritual knowledge continued to use AUM, while among the masses the sacred word has falsely evolved similarly to the spoken language.
