I was talking to my friend about the ancient deities (he is xtian) and he said that according to the stories and ancient writings no deity was humane. for example, priests castrated themselves for the goddess kebele, or people were murdered (swamp mummies) what do you think?

Most of this is not true tho, read what their Jewish god did.

The stories have been distorted. Most of the rape, killing and other things are allegorical, and refers to a spiritual thing. This have been explained:

I advise to you and your christian friend to read the above sermon.

The gods do not accept blood sacrifice. This is even written in the bible when the jews held a contest of blood sacrifice to "prove" legitimacy between Baal and yahweh. Baal did not accept the sacrifice, but yahweh ate it right up. The jews claimed this proves yahweh is the true god, and murdered the heathens, which was certainly done as a human sacrifice.
