I have two dogs that fight over stupid shit at night. Sometimes they fight over who gets to sleep on which bed, or who gets to chew on a specific toy. For likely 3 nights in a row those two idiots woke me up in the early AMs with loud growling and barking. Eventually I snapped and started astral projecting and telling them to shut the fuck up. Their fights usually didn't last long but I'm a very light sleeper.
What I tried didn't seem to work and I grew even more frustrated with both of them. I started trying to force them to stop fighting but it probably ended up causing their fights to become more severe. One night they had a fight that lasted probably a good straight 10 minutes, at that point I just figured I'd let them fight to punish themselves.
One of the dogs started screaming loudly. The other dog ended up biting their eye beyond repair. I've had them both for over 5 years and they've never seriously injured each other before. I don't remember hurting them but it definitely wasn't a coincidence. After seeing the poor dogs eye rotting out and later the medical bill, I realize I probably should have dealt with the problem in a different way.
If you have loved ones, be it humans or animals, you're going to feel like shit if you hurt them over dumb things like this. I could have bought 5 dollar ear muffs or separated them, instead I probably escalated things and ended up with a one eyed dog and a 1.5k+ medical bill.
