There is a misconception that certain SS translators have regarding JoS translation leaders.
While a leader is one who is in charge of a project by definition, a leader is also one who has a life outside the JoS forums.
Along the way, I have encountered people who have a very distorted concept on the subject of the time we leaders dedicate to JoS.
You can find leaders who dedicate their full time to it, as well as leaders who can dedicate certain hours to it, but that doesn't make them less of a leader than the others.
If we were put in this position of translation leaders, it is because we have proven ourselves on the basis of facts and have taken charge of it sometimes without thinking if we would become leaders.
But many of you believe that to be a leader is to be 24 hours out of 7 days pending of what you send us, yes, of course, we must be pending of this, but that does not mean that we respond immediately, many times we take a few days to respond, due to external situations or because we are enjoying our time with our families and friends.
Having a life outside of JoS is necessary, as it gives us oxygen, allows us to implement new ideas, and even when we share in our families, ideas come to the surface much easier, this also helps our growth and subsequently JoS.
Being a leader does not mean that we have the absolute word, far from it, we are only messengers of the Gods and as messengers we try to get the message across as well as possible and that the structure of this works for the benefit of all. We also listen to those who have things to tell us that can improve our course of action. However sometimes dealing with people is a complex thing, as there may be a good level of communication from the leader, but the other person does not seem to listen and even rudely disrespects the leaders in their area.
Keep in mind that assertive communication methods are the best way to get someone to pay attention to you. This post complements the previous one I did about our dedication: Translators.
No one will pay attention to you if you are rude and want to impose your point of view, or don't seem to listen logically to what your leader is trying to tell you. We think about JoS's well being but also about his growth, our duty is to take care of him as a mother takes care of her child, following the right parameters.
An example of the above is when you as a translator have given your word many times to fulfill your work, but after a few months you do not come up with anything and you do not communicate and then you come to demand, to be rude and haughty saying that we must provide you with other material to translate, that we are practically obliged to pay attention to you.
This makes me wonder
How should I pay attention to you when you have proven to be nothing more than a talker?
Yes it is true, we all change, we must have new opportunities, but if when we give you the opportunity you live in constant complaining that they change the material, that they send other material and a lot of other excuses. If you have conditions that do NOT allow you to follow a translation route provided by your leader, the most correct and logical thing to do is to tell us, “LOOK I can not fulfill this task, because my conditions are this and this” but instead you tell us “yes I can fulfill this” after a few days you tell us that you can not fulfill this or that you can not send another material when you have not sent the previous one that was provided to you.
The translation has logic and structure, everything in life is organized in this way. There are levels at which you must finish in order to move on to the next one, it is not just a matter of saying send more material when you have not fulfilled the objectives you have been given in confidence.
I have said many times that translating is not an easy task, in fact it is a sacred task that requires time and I take my task very seriously, in fact when I cannot accomplish something, I always communicate it and explain the reasons. I am strict with myself and with others.
When someone tells me “you are unfair”... I just try to look at the situation objectively, it makes it easier for me because I have a lot of air in my chart, but I also try to be empathetic. However, there are times when I have to be tough, like when someone has already been given many opportunities to prove their worth and can show that they have changed. Tell me as a translator, would you be happy if you worked hard and did what the Gods asked of you and someone else came along with words and effortlessly rose to your level?
No, obviously it would bother you because it would be unfair to you and the others, who have worked hard to earn their place.
So please, do not demand if you have not given. This is the law of reciprocity, everything moves from there to here and from here to there, not from one side to the other.
These delusions of people sometimes make me angry, but then I think that every path is different and that maybe at some point he will grow up and listen to what you are trying to tell him, but sometimes being compassionate does not work and it is time to apply rudeness and be strict in this.
No, I am not problematic, nor is everything with me a problem. But if you look objectively you will understand that everything moves by certain laws, do not pretend that by giving him so many opportunities, it will be so forever, all help is welcome in JoS but as long as it moves based on good communication, fulfillment of objectives and above all his word.
There is an ingrained culture in Colombia where people are late, where they don't pay attention and where they disrespect people, they demand without giving anything in return, here in JoS, it is NOT like that. It moves for different reasons than you are used to. This is part of growing up.
