May I have the ability to edit posts?

I have been a long time forum user(Old forum and new) and joined the new forum when the old one was taken down(a very sad day indeed). I remember that I was able to edit my posts to add new information/correct spelling and grammar mistakes on my original account but on later accounts this feature had vanished. Would it be possible to gain this ability once more on my current account?

I do have past accounts, one was banned due to what I assume was a VPN related mishap(I no longer use VPNS), others I have either lost the password to or have distanced myself as a result of the foolishness I portrayed to those days.

To HP Hooded Cobra, as I know you are the one to make decisions such as this, I am one of the people who ordered Astro orders from you back in 2019, as such, I would be happy to wait until you are able to complete my astro order(I am aware that you are very busy and this is not me trying to get you to "speed up" or any bullshit like that. As stated before, I am happy to wait as long as neccesary!) to make a decision on this as that would allow you to see if I am trustworthy or not.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Hail Satan!

No. Because someone would make a normal comment and get it approved, then edit it into something horrible. There's a whole swarm of rats that wants to cause problems here. I'm not saying you are one of them, but there are people that would abuse that editing.

Edits can go through the moderation process too, actually.

May we all? Then may trolls, spammers, liars, misinformation-spreaders? Yes, of course. Let's do that.

Then they could just write a regular comment.

I want to say I'm happy to see you here more often now. :)

Problem with editing is that people may go back to their topics, malform them, and they say they didn't say things they did. This perverts the history of the board.

Of course, we have backups. So things should be obvious if such a case had to go really deep. But this in a sense corrupts history of a board.

A troll or even someone bitter can use this to edit a post from 2 years ago, and only admin or mod may notice. Or a person who turned on everyone for whatever reason. And if they don't, it could be a link to whatever things that if one posts bye bye everything here. So it's as other members said and it can't happen.

On the other hand if any mod or admin accounts have this, this should be easy to notice, because of archives, saved topics. There's access to a panel that shows these things so one can see what another did. This observation can happen to mods, but not regular accounts.

But nobody can pay attention to every single comment by every single member because this will cause chaos.

This would be totally a bad idea considering also there are people that want this forum banned in a legal sense everywhere. They could edit really old posts to say or link to something illegal and someone might not notice it for awhile by that time they make a false report on this.

That's one hing someone didn't say yet. All the other responses are valid concerns. This could be problematic in enough ways and probably more no one even thought of yet that it's just not worth it.

That is a good point. That is likely why the feature was restricted on later accounts. As I recall, the edit permission wasn't under approval.

Why don't you send him e-mail instead of posting this on public board???

Four reasons.

1. HPHC has a large amount of spam coming in every day since his emails are public and he may not see my email
2. There are many knowledgeable people here who can share their perspectives and give me insight I otherwise would have not found in private conversation
3. Even if my email was found, he may not have time to respond to it, this is where other SS could provide a sufficent answer based on their own intuition and experience on the forum
4. If HPHC was to respond somewhere, it would be most beneficial to respond on the forum, that way, in the chance that someone else has this question in the future, they can search for it and find this thread with an already layed out answer and not create new threads with questions that have already been answered.

I am not advocating for that, the only thing such an action would cause is harm. I was asking if I(singular) could have edit permissions for two reasons.

1. HPHC has my Astrological infomation for orders he will fulfill when he has time to, as such, he has access to information which would allow him to know me better than I know myself and tell if I am trustworthy or not.

2. I would receive great use out of the edit feature as I often notice grammar and punctuation errors after already posting. Also, I would be able to provide updated information or provide information which I left out in the first post of my thread so people don't have to scroll down for it. A great example of this is my "Warefare by stickers!" thread. Not only is there a spelling error in the title but the thread is missing links which got deleted during creating the post(somehow) and is riddled with grammar and punctuation errors.

I see. Thank you for your response and for explaing things thoroughly. I appreciate your time!

Like when RatStain edited a member's comment to make it look like the person said something that they never said, and tried to use it as an excuse to ban the person. But the person had pictures of what the comment really was originally, so it didn't work.

That is a good point. I didn't think of something like that happening. I remember there was controversy when the reddit CEO was editing peoples comments that criticized them to defame them. People found out pretty quickly what the CEO was doing though.

That is a really great point. I remember there was something illegal on the forums that someone was advocating which could have been used to shut us down. I remember reporting it and the thread being taken down very quickly which was good but it could have been a fucking fiasco.

Someone was advocating for defacing currency(A federal offense) as a way to spread the JoS name. Literally would have gotten us labeled as a fucking terrorist organization or some shit. BAD idea.

I do agree, nonetheless, and I am no pro-edits.

Thanks.

I remember that thread it was a little cringe from me too. While I am pretty sure this may not have been anything prosecuted on an individual level and not all of what everyone was saying was even illegal some of it was. I remember I even linked to some law on this there. It might have resulted in action against the group like you said. So glad it was taken down.

OK, so can you have the edit feature? Can I? Can we all? Can trolls, spammers, liars, misinformation-spreaders? There is also something called a Preview button. That has been there forever.
