It’s that time of year for beautiful decorations and the festive atmosphere! (Ignoring the repetitive xmas music blasting everywhere, of course.)

One of my favorite childhood memories is when my grandparents came to visit, and my grandmother taught me how to make ornaments for the tree.

There are easy ornaments that anyone can make very affordably, and you can shape them to your own preference. When cooled and dry, you can spray paint them, or use acrylic paint, for a beautiful finish in whatever color you enjoy.

Ingredients: flour, salt, water. Here’s a website that writes very detailed instructions, scroll down a long way to get the basic instructions plus video: https://wholefully.com/make-salt-dough-ornaments/

Mix by hand, add more flour or water as needed. You don’t want them too dry or too wet. You can cut the shapes with cookie cutters, or shape them by hand. Make a small hole near the top, you can use a chopstick or straw, for example. This will be to thread yarn, string, or wire through to hang them.

For a standard 7-foot tree you’ll need to make about 100 small ornaments (make less if you already have a lot of ornaments from previous years).

If you can have multiple cookie sheets in the oven at the same time, this would be ideal. If you don’t have an oven you can still make these, but they will need to air-dry for a few days.

This is time consuming, but think of it as time well spent. Once they are done, your tree will be beautiful, and the ornaments will possibly last decades.

A basic shape that doesn’t require creative ability is to make flat balls. Flatten them to ¼ inch, and use something to make a small hole near the top. When spray painted and hung, they will look simple yet elegant.

Spirals are traditional in Pagan cultures, but they might loosen up while hanging and break. Candy-cane shapes are also traditional and easy to make.

Another custom is to make an ornament in the shape of the first letter in the name for each person (and pet) living in the home. For example, if your name happens to be Santa Claus, then make an ornament shaped like an S. And if you happen to have a pet reindeer named Rudolph, shape an R.

You can also make stars (turn them slightly for pentacles), or whatever shape you want. From personal experience, making Demon sigils by hand is difficult. It might cause problems if you have guests over anyway. As a safer (and easier) alternative, you can shape one in the first letter of the name of your GD. (Make sure to have an explanation if anyone sees it and asks, or just say it was misshapen as it was handmade.)

For colors to paint them, this is individual. Some prefer the color theme of blue, white, and silver. Some prefer red and gold; or red, gold, and silver. Some enjoy as many colors as possible, to represent the chakras. You can paint some (or all) in the candle color of your Guardian Demon.

The order in which to decorate your tree for best results and no tangles:

Step 1: string the lights
Step 2: hang the large ornaments
Step 3: hang the small ornaments

This will ensure balance and harmony, as your large ornaments will be evenly spaced out, and the smaller ornaments distributed evenly throughout.

If you have multiple colors of ornaments, then hang each color at a time. For example, if you have 20 blue and 20 silver balls, hang all the blue ones first for even distribution of that color. And then hang the silver ones so those are also evenly distributed.

Those of you with young children might have to just let your kids do their own thing, lol.

(When you take down your tree, reverse the order: remove all small ornaments first, then the large ones, and then lastly the lights.)

For those of you who live alone and don’t see the point in putting up a tree, I suggest getting even just a small one to put on a table. Seeing it really will brighten up your home and your mood :)

Great post! Thank you Lydia!
According to the calendar, Yule has not started yet, and I have been feeling a festive atmosphere since last Friday!
I asked a work colleague (she is a woman), she told me that she feels the New Year's atmosphere.
I'm not the only one waiting for Yule and the New Year, and I'm very happy about it, I'm looking forward to the holidays!

You know I'll say the "silver-lighting" to coming from an Asian Christian background from an Asian Christian country is that we honor Yuletide, sure even under the guise of "Christian Christmas", so be it. We have beautiful markets in my home country where people sell hand-made ornaments, kind of like our own version of Germanic Christkindle markets. Although my country certain has its fuck-ups that put it an disadvantage against other countries, could be better than Islamist Indonesia or Communist China.

Nice early Yule post for getting ready for the big holiday :). I actually made a pentagram out of bendable wire and decorated it with blue micro lights after spray painting it metallic blue. I have it still and it has mounted the yuletree for the past two years!

Thank you for reminding of this wonderful way to make decorations for Yule, HPS Lydia!

I remember now making these as well with my mother and my grand mother when I was very little, and we even used to do this in school when I was in the first few years of school.

The first time my mother made these with me, I remember being very confused why we were making cookies if we aren't going to eat them haha!

Good memories.

That would be great hand making stuff I just don't have the space to do anything like that and plus I just got enough talent to shake a stick. I draw sometimes and occasionally try to make something but nothing to wild.
this seems simple enough and after being in end of life care for 8 years it takes alot of energy and extra time I didn't have . I am getting back into what I like to do like when I did these crafts years ago and thanks for the idea

Hail
Satan

I would like to try this but it is really hard.

Me and my family tried this and for the last two years this homeless man in a bright red suit and cap broke into our house and ate all of our ornaments. We were all asleep, but I caught him on our cameras. I bought a gun this year, so it shouldn't happen again. :)

Thank you Lydia! :) very interesting!

I was wondering also, does burning incense and sage work? I tried it and it made me feel so relaxed but maybe it was psychological.. does it affect your soul too? :)

If you leave actual cookies out for Santa Claus, then he won't eat your ornaments! Don't forget a glass of milk for him too ;)

Incense does have an effect in the mind, as does aromatherapy in general :)

I wanted to thank you for everything and wish you a Merry Yule. Thank you for all your help. History will remember you as wonderful people because you helped everyone and you helped me a lot.

So far I have never been able to celebrate Yule for some reasons or because sometimes I am not available.
Maybe next time I can celebrate it.

Sometimes I wonder how it happened, maybe next time.

Happy Yule!

I am happy to be here.

For Yule, I wanted to write a poem in memory of a family member I lost many years ago, and in memory of many forgotten heroes. I wrote the middle one for someone who taught me a lot.
This is the 12th poem I have written. That's why it is called "12th Snow".
Because my English is not good, many lines have lost their literary meaning. I would ask you to take this into consideration.
I think this is the first Yule I will make an effort to celebrate.

Yule is my favorite holiday, I don't like summer.
It still reminds me of some things.
Maybe it's not about going back to the past, it's about changing the future by shaping the present.
No son should be away from his father. Because the greatest gift a father can give to his son is a little compassion.
Sometimes we forgive people because we still want them to be part of our lives.

I know that each one of you is moving on with tired eyes. I know how difficult everything has been.
But remember that it is not that bad.
I am very bad at expressing my feelings, but I want you to know that I love each and every one of you very much.
Every one of you deserves a monument,
All these heroes deserve a monument.

12th Snow

The darkness has come closer to me.
No more the arrogance of the scribe, no more the scribe's jest. Even the most beautiful lie can no longer deceive me.
The word can no longer intoxicate me,
No one else's, no one else's, no one else's.

There was snow on the stone, a full moon in the sky, the smell of clean earth in the garden,
In a city whose doors open to the secret,
There was a peaceful and loving silence in the air
There was snow on the stone, peace in people's hearts, a deep calm in the full moon.

A nice boy and his brush,
It brought joy to everyone,
The city was once empty,
Now she is blushing with color and laughter,
Although he was only a talented painter,
Candies, reds, yule decorations;
blues, reds, greens and imagination,
All this was enough for him to create.

The child hailed a god,
She looked at his blond hair and his eyes and said;
"He's my father".

The weather has turned cold,
I will feel you in love,
I'll always feel you,
I'll see your eyes forever,
I will always and forever see your smile,
Every day from sunrise to sunset.

Of course it will blossom in the desert,
With your cold glass,
Maybe he can save me.

Hurry up, Homeros;
Hurry up, Hercules;
Let us ride on white horses to the orange-striped horizon,
While our war bells are ringing, let us be as merry as 1000 suns.

There was snow on the stone, a full moon in the sky, the smell of clean earth in the garden,
A peaceful silence in the air,
A city whose gates open to the secret,
There was snow on the stone, peace in people's hearts, a deep calm in the full moon.

The wind is up. The clear waters are moving. These are the verses of a warrior.

I don't know anyone else of my religion other than you. I am Egyptian. I live in a Muslim country.I have faced a lot of suffering Singleness, the misery of work, and not being with people who look like me and guide me I awakened the kundalini thanks to this page and group, but I cannot connect to the crown chakra Can you help me?

Thank you for posting this!
My grandmother and grandfather did the same thing with my brother and I growing up. I had totally forgotten about this method, and it brings a smile to my face as the memories from the past resurface in my mind. I will be doing this with my daughter this Yule, and every Yule after.
It's such a beautiful way to have keepsakes for all the Yule seasons as they pass, reminding us of the joy and time spent with our loved ones.
Many blessings and much love to everyone this Yule ❤️
