He represents the force of life and the opening of the 72,000 nadis of the soul with the rasing of the serpent.  He was the king of the Gods and the guardian of the boat of Ra. The soul.  Who fought the serpent Apep which is not evil it just represents the soul in  the lower octave of vibration before the opening of the soul to the life force. The Sanskrit texts state the soul that is not opened though practices is stuck in a state of stagnation  and entropy. This is what Apep represents and what  Set overcomes. His 72 companions are the 72,000 nadis.

144 adds to 9 like 72. However the 72 is based on 36 and 36 which are the number of male and female nadis in the soul. The Nadis are always related in numbers around 9. Note 36 and 36 becomes 18 the number of nights Odin hung on the tree of life.  Night and Day  the female and male.  And 36 adds to 666.

The sushumna nadi is called the master nadi for the whole soul. When you bring the energy up though the sushuma you can feel the extensions really activate as well. Because this nadi is the key to union of the male and female half of the soul,. The left and right half of the body as part of this.
