Alawites have had a grip on the rest of Syria for a long time. The Sunni Islamist government isn’t going to allow that anymore. It’s worrying really, the middle east is becoming more theocratic from Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, the gulf states.
Islamism cannot seem to beaten physically.
All the West did with its stupid decisions was amplify it further. Bin Laden knew what he was doing when he attacked the US, just like Hamas did when they did the attack on Israel.
Their strategy is to bait massive reactions from Western powers or Israel which then allows them to both score sympathy points from liberals by playing the victim and simultaneously it radicalises young muslims into becoming islamists as “Islam is being attacked”. Whether Israel actually did the Oct 7 attacks or not is irrelevant because it lost the PR war from its absolutely barbaric behaviour in Gaza. Israel gained nothing from that war whether they started it or not.
Now the world hates Israel(good) and the West for how they chose to go about reacting against Islamist terrorism. The secular dictatorships in libya, iraq and syria were removed by the West for no good strategic reason. The only side that won out from all this were the islamists, both from shia and sunni varieties. All the West had to do from the very beginning was leave the middle east alone, not allow the jews to establish their own state or give weapons and military training to Bin Laden and the mujahedeen who ended up becoming Al Qaeda. Supporting the Wahabbis in Saudi Arabia and getting rid of Iran’s secular republic to replace it with the Shah, which allowed Khomeini and his shia islamist goons take over Iran were also massive mistakes.
The West basically did everything in its power to spread Islamism all over the Islamic world, directly and indirectly through stupid decisions.
