It is well known that for a spell to be effective faith is needed, the more the magician has belief in his powers the better. It's also very important during the spell to be convinced that what we are trying to manifest is already a reality. This sounds easy, but it's really not, especially in the beginning.
Someone who has never had success in Magick and that is a beginner with little to no energy sensitivity, might struggle a lot to convince himself that what he's doing will be effective. He might even feel awkward saying affirmations in the present tense that he knows in his heart are not true at the current time. This is a challenge for many, even for more advanced people, they still struggle to bring themselves to be 100% confident.
Of course, even if you have some doubts, the spell will still work on some level, but not on the level that it could if you had maximum belief. It's also true that as you advance, and you have more and more proof of your power, you will naturally be more confident.
One advice I can give you is to focus on all the reasons why it will work and ignore all the reasons why it might not. Focus on the fact that you started with the perfect astrological timing, the fact that you are using very powerful mantras/words of power, the fact that you have been meditating diligently so you have no reason to doubt yourself and so on. Of course when I say focus on these things I don't mean during the actual execution of the spell, you have to be fully focused on the goal there.
Nevertheless faith doesn't necessarly need to be "rational". A lot of people both in life and in spirituality, manage to raise an incredible level of faith and confidence, even if all odds are stacked against them. How? They just choose to. They decide I will be confident because I am me and I am successful, end of it. They don't need 20 different reasons to be confident. These people are often Fire dominant, so they have a natural predisposition for this, but anyone can do it if they want.
The truth of the matter is that to have total faith, it takes courage and strength. Most "rational" and pessimistic types try to convince themselves and others that the reason they never believe in anything, even themselves, is because they are "realistic". The truth often is that they are actually scared of believing in something, a project for example, and then failing. They are afraid of the embarassment and pain a failiure would bring them, so they never try anything will full conviction so they are safe.
Instead a courageous man still keeps the faith even if the possibility of failiure is there. You don't need to be delusional thinking that you are infallible, what you need is the strength of character to handle failiure. That's how you beat fear. You realize that even in the case of failiure, you will have all the strength to handle it, and you will actually learn from it, getting better all around, and when you will try again you will be even more confident, because you will be wiser and stronger.
In life we all fail, even the best of us, so I reiterate that believing that you are infallible will only lead to disaster, because of the disillusionment factor once you will fail. Everything will crumble. Failiure is part of the learning process and a sign that you are trying. In acquiring important skills and achieving big goals you will have to fail a thousand times. But never lose the faith in yourself.
Once you understood this, you can tackle every challenge with maximum belief. Yes, you know that you might fail but you don't focus on that. Doubts don't serve you during the execution process. They only hinder you, both in life and in Magick.
Does this mean that you have to eliminate all doubts for ever? Not at all. Doubting is very good, when done in the proper manner.
I will tell you how I do it. I divide every challenge/project in three phases. 1) Thinking, 2) Planning, 3) Executing.
In the first two phases you can have all the doubts that you want. You will make mistakes so it's okay to have healthy doubts. Doubts will also save you a lot of time, by preventing useless mistakes. But once you're done with the first two phases it's time for execution of the plan, and the execution has to be done with full focus and conviction. The time for doubting is over, if you are still crippled by doubts right now it's because you didn't do a good job in the first two phases.
It's an undeniable fact that doubt and indecision will slow you down in life. If you take two individuals, and one keeps going with full speed and conviction, and the other one has countless doubts for every little detail, you know who's going to win. Indecision destroys execution, it will make you commit many unnecessary mistakes, you will not be impactful and effective. You will always have reasons to question yourself, but you have to focus on why you have to be confident. Confident people also have doubts in their head, they just don't put their focus on them. You grow what you focus on.
Even in the case of failiure, try again. First learn why you failed with a detached mind like stoicism teaches. Don't identify with the failiure, try to look at it rationally, with no emotions. If you will just keep trying again and again it's inevitable that you will be successful sooner or later.
