What exactly does "Aspects" mean in astrology? I am not sure if I understand it or them properly.

Aspects are basically two planets that are close or far to each other by certain degrees. For example two planets have a conjunction if they are close to each other by 5-10 degrees (not 100% sure about the exact degrees but you can easily look it up) when you see 2 planets conjunct each other in the natal chart you will see that the 2 planets are so close to each other that they look like touching each other.

Conjunction is a hard aspect so that means that the aspect's energy is more concentrated unlike the trine or sextile which have softer energies.

Another example is an opposition. When two planets have an opposition aspect they will have a 180 degree angle between each other. Meaning on the chart you will see the planets exactly opposing each other.

There are hard aspects (Square, opposition, conjunct) and soft aspects (Trine, sextile)

When you look at a chart and look at the planets section you will find the aspects and they are symbolized by the following symbols.

When you want to know the meaning of an aspect, an easy way is to go to Azazels astrology planets, houses, signs and aspects section. Lets say you have a sun and venus aspect go to the sun section and go till the very end and you'll find the aspects then read Sun/Venus aspects and you'll learn a lot about the aspect for example.

Hail Satan!

Basically angles between 2 planets, and how their energies are mixed together or react together based on these angles, and based on which planets they are. Some work and blend perfectly together, and some try to fight each other for more dominate influence. But they all have their own effect. Read in Azazel's Astrology in the list of aspects, and copy the descriptions for all of the aspects that you personally have. You will see these influences in yourself.

Main Aspects are:

The Conjunction, where both Planets who aspect each other are within 0 Degree. They are on top of each other . This Aspect can be either positive or bad, given the nature of both planets involved. Very strong aspect.

You have the Opposition. This is where both planets are 180 Degree apart from each other.
This is considered a rather bad aspect, except for synastry readings. In Synastry oppositions can be good (or bad). Given the nature of both planets AND ALSO the individual factors of both persons involved.
In synastry oppositions can destroy each other or complement each other.

The Square. Both Planets are 90 Degree apart. This is a bad aspect.

The trine. Both planets are 120 Degrees apart. This aspect is considered a positive aspect. In synastry it is desirable to have many trines and only few squares.

The Sextile. Both Planets are 60 Degrees apart. This is also a good aspects and rather an aspect of „friendship“ in a sense. Not as strong as the trine tho.

Thanks a lot for the help guys. I am learning astrology from Azezel's Astrology but it's quite confusing, I overthink much of it.
There is another thing I am getting confused about. Finding the chart ruler.
Planets in houses 1 to 3 can be considered Chart rulers and co-rulers? House 1 to 3 come in Ascending? So that is how we denote a Chart Ruler? Or is it the one closest to 0* of Ascending should be the Ruler and below it should be considered a co-ruler?

And what is an intercepted sign?

Can you guys help me learn Astrology? is it okay if I ask more questions if I get confused?
Thank you.

For starters focus on the ascendant. The asc is the sign that your 1st house marker falls on for example if you have 1st house Leo then Leo is your asc.

To understand what is your chart ruler if for example Leo is your asc then the Sun (ruled by Leo) is your chart ruler. If you have 1st house Scorpio then Pluto is your main chart ruler and Mars is your co-ruler (both ruled by Scorpio) which is helpful but has less importance than the main ruler.

Leave intercepted signs out for now until you fully understand what I mentioned.

Hail Satan!!

Intercepted signs are signs that are swallowed whole by a house.

For example, if your ASC is in Pisces and your first house ends in Taurus, Aries is intercepted as your first house swallows it whole. So Mars is your Co-Ruler, as it rules over Aries.

You Ruler is the Planet that rules over the sign where your ASC is.
Some Signs have a Ruler and an additional Co-Ruler.

Check this site out for a list of the Zodiac and their ruling planets.

Planets that are within your first house are also your Co-Rulers.

All Ruling Planets that are intercepted by your first house are also your Co-Rulers.

That’s it all for Rulers and Co-Rulers.
