Contrary to what many believe, the depictions of the Gods in Classical art was partially dicactic and designed to be learned from.

This is the reason the enemy and the stinking putrid traitors following them were so singularly vicious in smashing up idols and emphasized this constantly. It was not just to destroy or loot precious objects, or to insult pagans, but to deprive humanity of discovering the path of learning from the Gods themselves. THE ENEMY IS SCREWED WHEN PEOPLE KNOW!
