Question #2212: what to forgive and what not to forgive

should we forgive everything ??? I guess that would be what we're against which is turning the other cheek but what to forgive and what not to forgive? Forgive your father for being horrible and traumatizing you? your mother for abandoning you? friends who spoke ill of you? people treating you badly at work????? and most importantly, yourself. (these are just a few examples)

My answer is not directly about forgiveness. But it is important to realize that not everybody is able to change. If somebody has a bad personality, this person will likely continue to have a bad personality. If forgiveness means ignoring this and expecting that this person will not harm you again, it could be a mistake. I am not saying to hold onto any kind of bad emotion because that is not healthy, but remember this.
