Hello all! This is my first post after nearly 10 years of studying and practicing spiritual Satanism, thanks to Father Satan, his demons, and the wonderful High Priests and Priestesses that built this site. That being said, I come to you with a beginner’s topic. I will try to keep this succinct, though my mind is scattered today. I am open to everyone’s ideas and opinions.
In my practice, Father Satan has taught me that it doesn’t really matter which direction I call him from. In fact, he seems rather nonchalant in this matter, and encouraged me to hail his direction as North, since my altar is facing North. However, the four corners have been the basis of magic for thousands of years, so it feels important to get it right. I thought I’d ask you all for your input.
In general, this is the consensus I’ve found in my research, and in my own experience:
North = Earth
South = Fire
East = Water/Air
West = Air/Water
I am certain of North and South. East and West seem to be interchangeable, and I cannot feel a concrete difference. Only in my research do I find that East is traditionally considered as Air, and West is Water.
>It is my understanding that each element has its opposite, and is supposed to oppose the other in the cardinal directions. Would this not mean that water and fire should oppose each other?
>Also, if Aries/First House is associated with the ascendant (east), why isn’t fire considered to be the east?
>Do you understand the element and direction to be essential when calling upon the four crowned princes?
Please let me know what you think, and what your experiences with elemental energies have been.
I have brought these issues to Rofocal, and he concurs, it’s not that big of a deal, as long as the elements are correct. What do you think?
Hail Satan!!!
P.S.
My desire for clarity relates to charging my tools with elemental energy. In particular, I like to charge each card in my tarot deck as a sort of monthly “calibration.” Doing this, I can usually tell which card I’m about to pull based on the feeling under my fingers. I like to place the major arcana in the center, and each suit in its corresponding direction. I seriously cannot tell the difference between east and west. (I have to do it monthly, because all the elemental energies together gets muddy, and needs cleaned often, especially with the quintessence of actually reading the cards).
