A sermon I have worked on for the past 3 days concerning the holiday Lammas/Lughnasadh.  Some new material has been found considering the true date this holiday falls on. Most have it marked as August first or July 31st though this is not true. The true date is listed below as when to properly begin the celebrations. Along with recipes, magickal correspondences, Lughnasadh songs and poems and chants and recipes and more. So grab some tea or snacks because this read is quite long. Hope you all enjoy......
*** If there is information here that is not correct, please by all means correct it in your posts. some of the material in this sermon is outdated as this is from my original black book from 11 years back as well.... thank you.
As [/IMG]Any wheat weaving crafts Shafts of grain Sunflowers Indian corn Bread wheat and corn stalks Spears which represented Lugh Scythes are also symbolic of this Sabbat because they represent the time of reaping and sacrifices we make to achieve our endeavors as well as the fruits, veggies and other produce we harvest during the time before the winter season begins.</dir> </dir> Lammas Foods <dir> <dir> Breads Cornbread Cider Blackberry pies and jellies Rice Meadowsweet tea Berries Nuts Turnips Oats Elderberry wine Rice cakes Wheat crackers Corn muffins Oat cakes Beer/mead Rice milk </dir> </dir> Lughnasadh Sacred Gemstones <dir> <dir> Aventurine Citrine Peridot Sardonyx </dir> </dir> Spellwork appropriate for Lughnasadh <dir> <dir> Spells for prosperity Abundance Good fortune Connectedness Career Health Financial gain </dir> </dir> </dir> </dir> Here is a Lughnasadah ritual you can do at home or in your astral temple it can be modified to work in a group if you are in a coven: You can also modify it to suit your own individual spirtuality.) I like this ritual because it is short, sweet and to the point, easy to perform if you are a beginner in rituals and it is just as effective as an elabroated ritual. Begin this ritual on the eve of August 5th at sundown(this is the proper date as it it is the evening before the Sun is in 15 degrees of Leo.) Place upon the altar sheave of white, offerings of fruit and bread(if you live on a farm or have a garden, this would make a great offering if you used produce from your own gardens as this is representative of the hard work you have made to produce this offering.) Baking a bread or cake in the shape of a sun or a corndoll made of corn husks or any of the above mentioned decor would also do well on the atlar. Have a candle to represent Lughnasadh, a yellow or orange candle would do nicely. Light your incense and illuninator candles, recite the Satanic blessing: " May the Powers of Satan/Lucifer, and the mighty Gods of Hell bless this place and time, as I seek to celebrate this sacred festival with you." Now recite the Invocation to Satan/Lucifer and invoke the 4 Crown Princes of Hell and light their candles. Focusing on your altars images say the following: Now take some of the wheat or grain decor on your altar and hold it in your hands as you stand before the altar saying: "Now is the first harvest of the year, the time when the fruits of nature give themselves that we may survive. Now as the Earth prepares for death(Winter), may its sacrifice help us to understand and to accept the sacrificese we must make in our own lives. Now, as the Earth enters Winter, may it whisper the secrets of magick in our ears, that we may put them to good use, and do as we will." Rub the grains off of the stalks of wheat so the grains fall onto the altar. This is a ritualized version of the threshnig of grain, an act considered sacred in pre-xian times in Ireland. Then life a piece of fruit and take a bite out of it, savoring its taste. Then say: "I partake in the fruits of teh first harvest, that the energies might aid and guide me in my search, for wisdom, knowledge, and perfection in godhead. Oh Lord Lucifer/Satan, The True God of this world, and humanity as a whole, I thank you for the bounty you have given me throughout the year. May I always remember to live independently and may my actions be pleasing to you, and the Gods of Hell, always!" Eat the rest of the fruit you have taken a bite from. Now works of magic may follow, as well as any seasonal activities you have planned.Feasting may follow the ritual, with appropriate foods such as breads, berries, crab apples, and any locally ripe produce. AFter any such activites are finished, you may hold a simple feast and close the ritual. LUGHNASADH RECIPES: Butternut Squash, and Wild Rice Soup

LUGHNASADH PRAYERS, POEMS AND CHANTS FOUND THROUGHOUT THE INTERNET FOT YOU TO ENJOY:
"The grain to harvest’s cutting falls
to make the bread for banquet halls.
We’ll save some seeds where life’s waiting,
and plant a new field come next Spring.
We shared the work we needed to do,
and now we’ll share the eating too!
Thank you, fruit, and thank you bread,
for making sure that we are fed." ............................ "Now is the time of the First Harvest,
when bounties of nature give of themselves
so that we may survive.
O God of the ripening fields, Lord of the Grain,
grant me the understanding of sacrifice as you
prepare to deliver yourself under the sickle of the
goddess and journey to the lands of eternal summer.
O Goddess of the Dark Moon,
teach me the secrets of rebirth
as the Sun loses its strength and the nights grow cold. I partake of the first harvest, mixing its energies
with mine that I may continue my quest for the starry
wisdom of perfection.
O Lady of the Moon and Lord of the Sun,
gracious ones before Whom the stars halt their courses,
I offer my thanks for the continuing fertility of the Earth.
May the nodding grain loose its seeds to be buried in
the Mothers breast, ensuring rebirth in the warmth
of the coming Spring." ................................. "The Wheel rolls more, and Autumn returns.
Cooler the rain; the Sun lower burns.
The coloring leaves presage the Year:
All things move into harvest’s sphere.
I vow to savor fruits first picked;
nor into grief shall I be tricked.
I vow to offer what once I spurned,
and face the Turning reassured. ................................... I come to this space in celebration
Within the Sacred Garden of the Gods.
The Sun God; Lucifer, the Light Bearer
He gives forth light and the energy of life to all.
Through the Goddess Lilith and from the Goddess Lilith
All things grow and mature.
It is She who is the bearer of life and rebirth of the Harvest to
come.
The land is full and must be tended.
Let me now share Her bounty."~ modified ................... "The Wheel of the Year has turned once more,
and the harvest will soon be upon us.
We have food on our tables, and
the soil is fertile.
Nature's bounty, the gift of the earth,
gives us reasons to be thankful.
Mother of the Harvest, with your sickle and basket,
bless me with abundance and plenty. The power of the Harvest is within me.
As the seed falls to the earth and is reborn each year,
I too grow as the seasons change.
As the grain takes root in the fertile soil,
I too will find my roots and develop.
As the smallest seed blooms into a mighty stalk,
I too will bloom where I landed.
As the wheat is harvested and saved for winter,
I too will set aside that which I can use later. As the grain dies, it transforms to bread,
and brings us life through the winter.
We bless this bread, and it blesses us in return,
and we are thankful for the gift of the harvest." .............................. "Come ye spirits of North, powers of Earth, bring the beauty of ripe, golden fields. Be with me this night.
Come ye spirits of East, powers of Air, bring the cool morning breeze. Be with me this night.
Come ye spirits of South, powers of Fire, bring the hot, sultry summer afternoons. Be with me this night.
Come ye spirits of West, powers of Water, bring the warm rains that nourish the fields. Be with me this night.
Lord Lucifer, Lord of the Harvest, the bounty of your seed ripens in the fields and orchards. Be with me this night.
Lady Lilith, Mother of All, your great swollen belly provides abundance. Nourish me, protect me. Be with me this night."~ modified .................................. "Blessed be the Earth for giving birth to this food
Blessed be the Sun for nourishing it
Blessed be the Wind for carrying its seed
Blessed be the Rain for quenching its thirst.
Blessed be the hands that helped to grow this food"
