One festival in mind that aligns somewhat with mid-February is the Anthesteria. Anthesteria is a three-day festival honoring Dionysus, celebrated around this time in Athens. It was linked to wine, rebirth, and spirits of the dead.

Excerpt from Wikipedia:

"The Anthesteria (/ˌænθɪˈstɪəriə/; Ancient Greek: Ἀνθεστήρια [antʰestέːri.a]) was one of the four Athenian festivals in honor of Dionysus. It was held each year from the 11th to the 13th of the month of Anthesterion, around the time of the January or February full moon. The three days of the feast were called Pithoigia, Choës, and Chytroi.

The festival celebrated the beginning of spring, particularly the maturing of the wine stored at the previous vintage, whose pithoi (storage-jars) were now ceremoniously opened. During the feast, social order was interrupted or inverted, the slaves being allowed to participate, uniting the household in ancient fashion. The Anthesteria also had aspects of a festival of the dead: either the Keres (Κῆρες) or the Carians (Κᾶρες)[c] were entertained, freely roaming the city until they were expelled after the festival. However, the word Keres is often used to refer spirits of evil instead of the dead. A Greek proverb, employed of those who pestered for continued favors, ran "Out of doors, Keres! It is no longer Anthesteria".

Anthesteria - the Festival of Flowers:

Anthesteria is known as the "Festival of Flowers," which symbolizes spiritual flourishing, rebirth, and the empowerment of the soul, much like flowers blooming with water and sunlight. It is deeply connected to Dionysus and the life-giving essence of water, the Aquarius, it represents spiritual nourishment that awakens the chakras, elevates the soul, and brings enlightenment.

This ancient festival marks the arrival of spring, the first flowers, and the new wine, while also honoring and pacifying the spirits of the dead. It embodies a time of renewal, transformation, and communion between the living and the departed, reflecting the balance between life’s joy and ancestral memory and heritage.

At the festival’s start, Athenians crowned three-year-old children with wreaths woven from the season’s first flowers, symbolizing youth, new beginnings, and divine blessings. This tradition resonates with many Pagan and nature-based customs, such as crafting dandelion crowns to honor the earth’s cycles and the renewal of life.

Aquarius is ruled by Uranus and Saturn, symbolizing change, liberation, and deep wisdom - all themes present in Dionysian worship. Dionysus on the other hand is a god of transformation, breaking norms, and bringing divine unconventionalities, much like the unconventional and rebellious nature of Aquarius.

Aquarius is the Water Bearer, bringing divine life-force (water/wine) to humanity. Dionysus brings wine, which in ancient Greece was seen as a sacred drink that connected mortals to the gods. Both Dionysus and Aquarius represent renewal and the cycle of life - Dionysus through death and rebirth, and Aquarius through the flow of divine knowledge.

The second day of Anthesteria ("Choes") had a ritual where people drank wine in silence - perhaps an echo of Aquarius' introspective nature. The dead walked among the living, a theme of spiritual awakening and mystery - Aquarius is associated with higher wisdom and unseen realms. While Aquarius pours water, Dionysus pours wine, the liquid of the divine, a blessing of nourishment of both mind and spirit.

Dionysus wasn’t just about chaos; he was also a god of higher consciousness, experienced through ecstasy, trance, and divine consciousness. Aquarius represents the mind beyond limits, which breaks societal rules to embrace cosmic truths. Dionysus on the other hand did this by freeing people from restrictions and reconnecting them to their primal divinity, their true selves.

The festival of Anthesteria was about crossing these boundaries - between life and death, reality and ecstasy, the below and above dimensions, astral projection, altered states of cosnciousness, just like Aquarius bridges the spiritual and material worlds.

The festival acknowledges the presence of spirits and the ancestral dead, who were believed to roam freely during this time. Offerings were made to them, and rituals were performed to honor, appease, and eventually send them back to their realm, ensuring harmony between the world of the living and the unseen.

This sacred and ancient celebration serves as a bridge between the past and present, material and spiritual, earthly joys and cosmic mysteries. Pagan traditions celebrate life by honoring the natural rhythms of the earth, the cosmos, and the cycles of birth, death, and renewal.

These traditions recognize the sacredness of nature and its continuous flow - the changing seasons, the phases of the moon, the cycles of growth and decay - all as reflections of divine harmony. From spring festivals of fertility and renewal to harvest celebrations of abundance, Pagan traditions align with the energetic flow of life, which embraces the interconnection between humanity, nature, and the spiritual realms.
