I think it'd be useful to have the ability to edit a post at least while it's still waiting for moderator approval, or perhaps just a specific time window after hitting send. And to avoid malicious intent, there could be an option to view previous edit's as well.

There's been many times I'd have found it personally useful to refine my comment's to provide greater clarity and contribute to an overall superior discussion, which I'd only notice after the fact of already having clicked send.

I don't think it'd be too problematic or difficult to implement? Correct me if I'm mistaken.

I endorse adding an edit button too and while we’re at it an option to delete a post too if needed.

Members who have been here a while and proved themselves to be helpful for the community can get the option to edit. There are too many people who would abuse that, so it can't be given automatically to everyone. We have members here who are mentally unstable, some do drugs, and so on. And there have been members who neglected their AoP and daily cleaning, picked up on curses or spells and then shit-posted endlessly. They would abuse the ability to edit past posts to write what doesn't go through moderation.

I understand that it can be annoying to notice a mistake in your post, pretty much all that can be said is to read it over before submitting it. Or, you can re-post an edited version and report the previous version to be deleted, lots of members do this already.

As for deletion, you can report your post to be deleted, with a reason why.

What if you could "request" to implement the newly edited version, so that it would ultimately have to go through moderation as well? And treated essentially almost like a new post.

And I meant to be able to edit during that limbo phase where it isn't actually publicly visible yet.

The same with deletion, if there was a button to "request to delete" and it would show some sort of icon highlighting to mods... Last time I tried (old account) it went ignored until like a week or two later, yet my new posts were approved on that same thread. So I'm assuming there was a visibility issue or something.

- What I meant was, the post I requested to be deleted (before it was public) got posted anyway, and this request wasn't noticed until much later.

- The problem isn't necessarily of correcting mistakes/re-reading for me, but newer insights always come to mind in that 1-2 hour period before a post get's approved which I'd like to be able to add.

I don't know how much of an issue it'd be assuming all changes would have to go through moderator approval regardless with this approach?

That is a good idea. We'll see if the forums can be modified to do that, I've brought it up to the others. It might not be possible at all though.

It turns out that it can't be done. Perhaps in time we will have a forum platform that will have everything :)

I think you can also make the edits go through moderation again. Or at least if the post is not approved yet, we should be able to edit it if it has mistakes or we want to reword things differently.

We can already edit profile posts like this which is a great feature. I would love to see it in the forums too.

I believe this would be really good for user experience.

I usually type long threads or replies and I reread them a couple of times to make sure there are no typos or mistakes or anything.

However, after posting them I can see multiple typos, mistakes, wrong paragraphs.

And I get frustrated about this so often.

This doesn’t happen with profile posts because I can edit them and they go through moderation again which I don’t mind.

It can't happen, it's been looked into. The forums don't allow for it.

Being able to submit a request to edit would be great because sometime people read and re-read their post thinking they fixed all the grammar and spelling mistakes only to realize they forgot something the next day. There are some words that are small that can completely change the context of a post, such as will vs won't.

I care about my typos haha
I do it for me😅
Same here. Also, many are mobile users and auto correct sometimes likes to mess things up for them. Or sometimes we're in a rush and overlook things and other errors that could be misinterpreted in the wrong way.

A lot of other issues as described, some with unmoderated and undisciplined drinking could write or edit a bunch of garbage and forget what they wrote the next day.

Some are also dealing with a lot of improperly addressed issues & trauma, and are basically an unexploded grenade and could end up venting it the wrong way.

Somewhat related, althrough the solution is not necessarily an edit button (I agree that it would be used badly by some people):

When posting on mobile and you want to include a link, the button to insert the link is sometimes placed exactly over the "post reply" button and then the message gets posted instantly when "Insert" is clicked.

Maybe there is a way to have one to confirm if you want to post the message, at least on mobile?

It's no big deal, but it already happened twice to me and the button to post is sometimes really making me sweat when I'm writing posts on mobile and try to avoid it 😅🤣

The same thing happened to me twice yesterday. I had to turn on my computer for this reason to write another message in peace. 😂
