We have report function which serves same purpose, there is always exclamation point button where you can report posts.

Because an infiltrator usually targets new people who don't know enough about SS to shoo them off and tries to turn them away, and by the time the new person gets the infiltrator's DM the damage is done. Often these infiltrators impersonate members of the clergy or regular members, for example someone here tried to impersonate Aquarius by adding an underscore to his name, and someone can easily mistake that account for him.

I don't know if you have been in the JoS Yahoo groups before they were shut down, but it was an infiltrator's paradise: xians and anti-JoSers would occasionaly send private emails targeting new people (often impersonating HP Maxine or other HPs) and some of them got confused by all that stuff.

Thanks to the forums disabling private messages, this can't happen here.

The only way to avoid that is enable private messages for experience members only, but that's still unnecessary since many of them post their emails in the signatures and can be contacted there.

Also, banning them is pretty useless as many of these infiltrators are persistent and just keep creating new accounts when they are banned and keep harassing people. In the old JoS Yahoo groups, one infiltrator from a copycat website kept harassing new members with private emails and instant messages for more than 8 years. Another xian infiltrator kept emailing and messaging new members for 4 years trying to turn them away from Satanism, until some advanced magickians became very angry and cursed that person in a group ritual. Not sure what happened to him (some said he died), but he has stopped harrassing members ever since.

Thanks for clarifying. I also had this question.
Infiltrators like that thus make it harder for SS to befriend each other here then it seems.
Perhaps making PM's possible for certain more trusted members could be an idea then at least.

As people have said, new members are naive targets who don't know what to report.

If we did allow private messages, it would only be with trusted members, JGs, or higher. However, there would still be a tendency for useful information to be hidden. Unless something is a deeply personal question, it will benefit everyone to have it posted publicly. (And even then, we have https://ask-satan.net/ for anonymously asking personal questions publicly.)

In addition, these forums do not support encryption, so private messages would be at risk if there ever was a hack.

For now, ProtonMail serves the purpose of private messages to clergy or JGs.

Is JoS' own e-mail server too much work to setup and maintain? Do you see it as a possibility in the future?

That's on the to-do list.

But unless ProtonMail goes under, it is a low priority and will probably wait until next year.

Protonmail is great, but not too great. They have given information to authorities on demand.

Also, it seems that they are not going anywhere with the amount of work that is put into the services they provide.

Protonmail is great, but not too great. They have given information to authorities on demand.

Also, it seems that they are not going anywhere with the amount of work that is put into the services they provide.

The main attraction of ProtonMail is the encryption. It's much more secure than something like GMail where they read everything with their algorithms. However, as you said, Proton has had some disturbing cases in the past of sharing information like IP addresses.

Fortunately, I know how to implement the same type of encryption they do.
The Ask-Satan site is a test of this, and it has been working great!

Well, I remember being active on the old Yahoo forums, such a shame that they are lost unfortunately... but, the idea is that I didn't know that there would be so much idiots who kept on creating accounts and harassing.

You got a point there.

After all, unfortunately, the fact that it didn't happen to me doesn't mean it can't happen to anybody else that is on the "enemy list".
