Anyone is more than welcome to disagree, but I feel like an abundance of the Ask Satan questions can be asked on the regular forums with your identity revealed.

For those who don't know, the original purpose of the Ask Satan Forum is for people to protect their identity so they can ask questions which they would not be comfortable asking normally, or for revealing information like your natal chart.

For new members reading this or existing members not adhering to this, can we please return this forum to its proper function?

Maybe I am being a hard ass, idk

It is likely that there are many lurkers or observers, who have doubts or are not yet ready to create an account, out of fear or whatever, I don't know.

Other people are wrong, and think that this service is some kind of way of making a request directly to Satan, thinking that he will grant their wishes, or something similar.

In one way or another, I think AskSatan has brought new people to ask more questions, and thus to have first confrontations with the JoS community.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to put a warning on the AskSatan page, explaining that reading the JoS site is a prerequisite. That way we avoid the classic questions about 'selling your soul' and other crap.

Vira_ I agree with you.
My mistake! As I thought that I was actually talking to Satan. And we should put rules on the joy of Satan page. Explaining to people on the dos and don'ts of it. And what it is for?

If people actually took time to read what has been written, there would be no problem.

On the page when you open it, it says:

This service lets you ask questions which require anonymity on the Joy of Satan Forums. You can ask about astrology, health, spiritual topics, or simply anything you don't feel comfortable asking with your personal account.

Use the page below to submit your question, and it will be sent using zero-knowledge encryption to our trusted moderators, who will review it and remove sensitive information you might accidentally include, then post it on the forums for you, where everyone can chime in and help answer your question.

Within a few days, your question will be posted to the Ask-Satan.net Forum.

How much more clear does this need to be? There is also a topic explaining more in-depth about this service by our esteemed Blitzkreig.

Only up to 50 % of the issue is that nonsense gets approved. The rest is up to people submitting these queries that they should be using their user accounts and so on.

The reason I have been lenient on this, for the most part, is because I didn't think it was worth the effort to be super strict about this, given the number of daily submissions, also because many questions can fall into a gray area, or maybe the person is shy or whatever.

Perhaps it would make sense to do so in order to force them to make an account, but I don't think limiting their messages is a great way to convince or remind them of this. Hopefully people understand the importance of building a reputation with an account, rather than just using the AS service, and/or making multiple accounts.

At the end of the day, the purpose is to promote communications, so that is why I would let some questions through that didn't appear to strictly need anonymity. However, there were also cases of clear abuse which should, and have been, addressed.

@Blitzkreig [JG] how about people with an account who still post here, being disrespectful of the rules and purpose of this service?

Maybe @ApolloAbove [JG] in the future could change the permission of this subforum so that only the anonymous account can post, while everyone else can only comment. As far as I know, "posting a new thread" is different permission than "commenting on a thread" or whatever they are called, so it's not too difficult to change the settings.

Just a possible solution for those users who use this service incorrectly. It's not high-priority of course. Other things have much higher priorities.

To everyone reading, you're strongly invited to read the rules of the platform and each subforums. Rules exist to help, not to annoy you. If you want to be part of a community, you need to grow up and be respectful of its rules, not act like a teenager or a child.

Yes, such people should be addressed and one person has already been disciplined for it. At the same time, the service is open to people who have accounts and wish to ask questions. To determine whether abuse is happening, you have to scrutinize the questions, which can be difficult for the previously listed reasons, but also because I don't want to potentially undermine the anonymity of the service by trying to "expose" people, unless it is really required.

As I said before, I don't want to police too strictly in the case where an individual is unable to get an answer that they need. For example, Vira had gave the example of someone asking about whether they can sell their soul to Satan or not. The question is silly and also doesn't necessarily require anonymity, but I view it as like it is better for people to just get the answer and move on. So there is a balancing act between maintaining order and facilitating communications that I try to keep.
