Hello brothers and sisters! I have a question. A few days ago, I inexplicably had insomnia all night. It might be because I was too anxious. I bought melatonin from the pharmacy, took one pill and slept all night. Later, I read some information about melatonin. If you take too much, the pineal gland in the brain will no longer secrete melatonin, resulting in shallow sleep or drug dependence. I stopped taking melatonin last night and tried to fall asleep naturally. About half an hour later, I "fainted", but I woke up 4-5 times throughout the night and was in a half-asleep and half-awake state, dreaming constantly. Is this because the melatonin I took before has affected me?Does anyone know of any damage from taking melatonin externally? Is this permanent or am I just overly anxious?I also have a headache, I don't know if it's normal.

They won't permanently damage your brain or anything, so you should be fine. If you feel physically awake, I would suggest holding the Spleen 6 acupoint, which is a yin-building point that is great for insomnia. As a second option, you can also program Berkano to help you fall asleep.

When you take hormones externally, your glands lower their production because your body thinks, 'Why do we need to produce hormones if we're already getting them from outside?' And when you stop taking those hormones externally, your hormonal balance gets messed up.

It's a good idea to use natural alternatives like herbal teas.

I'm not a doctor, but if my sleep was so messes up and I couldn't fall asleep for like 3 days straight and was going mad because nothing was helping - yeah, I'd take melatonine too.

Just take it when you are unable to sleep no matter what herbal calming teas you take or no matter how calm you are. I'd say take it in emergencies only.

Not a doctor, so take what I just said with a grain of salt.

I use melatonin only in extereme cases, where I know that I won't sleep for some reasons.
i think regular use is not advisable for the reasons others explained here.

My suggestion is, there is a difference between low quality commercial melatonin you find in supermarkets, and herbal shop products, even if they are more expensive. I do not know much in terms of how they are produced, but I use a spray from a herbal shop and feels much more healthy than standard cheap melatonin pills.
