unless i practically pass out, it takes me hours to fall asleep. my mind is incredibly overactive as i tend to daydream a lot. the thing is, falling asleep hours after i tended causes me to sleep more once i do fall asleep, and im effectively wasting so much time, especially since i tend to wake up at night too sometimes. the obvious answer for an overactive mind is to practice void but that is something that will work with time. im wondering if there is anything that can help me achieve better quality sleep faster.

Force yourself to either sit down or stand up and do your usual activities (even daydreaming, yes), like that. Only go to bed when you are "about to pass out".
This will make your body associate your bed with sleep moreso.

For an even more draconic method, here's what I did:

Go to bed at 12 at midnight (or another time), and either wake up or get out of bed at 5AM.
No matter when you go to sleep or to bed, get out after 5 hours and don't spend more than 5 hours in bed.
After a couple days, or maybe even right on the next day after getting only an hour or two of sleep, your brain will understand that time in bed is not common and must be used efficiently. It will not only help you fall asleep better, but also more efficiently enter REM sleep.

Things like self-hypnosis through affirmations and visualization in a trance can help as well.
"I always find it easy to go to sleep whenever I want, in a healthy way for me.", in your native language (or the language you speak the most) would be more powerful. While visualizing something like a busy day and going to bed right after, and falling asleep instantly, as well as generally being rested when waking up and calm before going to bed.

Skills take time to learn. Giving up at the entry gates does not bode well for overall progress. Yes, you must practice this skill, if not, your mind will stay out of control, even outside of this particular issue.

When you combine the above advice with void meditation you should get the most results over time. Remember, be patient.

A method I use for void mediation makes easy to fall asleep if done at night. Do some breathing exercises where you flush out the air in the body. A simple one is just do some full inhale and exhales just to increase the oxygen in the body while flushing out the CO2. You don't have to go crazy with this. Then do some vibrations (pick a mantra or runes) this will help relax the body and it stacks with the breath work. After the vibrations do the non verbal mediation, affirmations, working, prayer or visualizations (whatever your current practice is). Once you are done the active meditation do some more full breaths while trying to stay still to increase the oxygen levels and purge the CO2. After doing this it should be easy to switch into a very shallow minimal breathing without feeling like you are out of breath. This shallow minimal breathing puts the body into a trance similar to falling asleep making void meditation easy. Then go to sleep after meditating. It should also reduce the amount of sleep you need to feel fully rested while knocking out the daily meditation.

There are also non addictive and natural sleeping pills. They are mostly melatonin and some herbs. Taking one a hour or 2 before sleep can help.

This works surprisingly well even tho its not very fun.
