I read that when Mercury is in retrograde a lot of things can go wrong and not work, in fact I have had a lot of things go wrong and even after Mercury went in retrograde, I just want to be sure that it is an effect of Mercury retrograde, also because my relationship went to pieces during that bad period.

The reasons why such an unpleasant thing happened are difficult to establish with astrological certainty. Not everyone lost important relationships during Mercury Retrograde.
It is a bad thing, I am very sorry, BUT try to take advantage of the fact that Mars is retrograde now. It favors reconciliations.
