#454 Problems using alternative OS

Hello

Lately I've been wanting to transfer all the SS information I have stored on my cell phone to the computer to keep it safe and browse the forums with it, but I'm having some inconveniences. I have windows 11 and I know it sucks for these issues for security and privacy reasons, but I don't want to install any new OS for two reasons:

1. even if it is bad, I need it for personal reasons and it is not convenient to delete it;

2. When I tried to install Linux, the bootable usb flash drive crashed, since it is not write-protected and has no partition assigned to it, so I'm afraid to install it in case it happens again.

So what can I do? Do I use virtualbox for it? Any other recommendations?

I would appreciate your answers.

You can improve windows by modifying hidden settings to turn off tracking features, and remove those dumb apps that come preinstalled. These links here are programs that do that. Everybody should do this. You will be able to access and shut off settings for trackers and spying and automatic updates.

I'm not sure how this works on windows 11. It works on windows 10, and I think it works for both.

*You can keep a separate partition for Windows in the same HD and keep it restricted from internet or such, or buy a new HD entirely for Linux and keep your Windows in its own HD.

*Are you sure the pendrive crashed, or did it just became unreadable by Windows? In the case Windows can't format the pendrive anymore by any apparently means and it seems crashed, Linux/Ubuntu has Gparted and Discs which can re-format any pendrives or HD's that Windows can't, unless they're actually corrupted, as in physically damaged.

*You could still use your favorite Windows apps without the system itself by using Bottles on your Linux.

Use ventoy to set up your bootable usb. That have worked for me all the time. Choose the "normal mode" and "boot from cd" when booting ventoy (you'll see this when you boot from the usb).
choose a relyable distro, mint, ubuntu, endevaour OS. Altough I have had unsuccesfull installs with mint, endevaour OS always wored, but it's a rolling distro so it has more pontential to break (never breaked for me for a year). In anyways, just try again, don't be afraid.

If you can detail when this crash exactly happened, maybe we can help more.
