That’s very true, I have questioned it. I haven’t been able to dig up any positive information about them in the long past and given the time period I assumed it had easily been a classic case of extreme mideval totalitarianism. This is all so new to hear about these people but I did just re-look up about Elizabeth Bathory and I’ve read that all of the claims made about her were after her death, which says a lot.
