Self defense will always be necessary. It is human nature and has been happening since our tribal days. There is always going to be disagreements and difference of opinions, political differences, racism etc, it will never go away. Advancing in this path does require strength and discipline, but you don't obtain these by stressing yourself out, instead, you build these qualities (or any others) with the associated workings such that you develop natural willpower and discipline.
