Quick question about kundalini

Is kundalini a physical part or astral part or what? Is it really a snake infact ?  :S

From what I understand it is the ultimate balance that connects our physical and astral as one. THe kundalini has its foundation in ether so it would be found in the astral. When it is risen it is found in both. It is not really snake it just resembles a snake when it breaks through your spine and reaches the top of your head.
