One more question about planetary squares

I just noticed my mars return is coming soon. This sign is neither in detriment or fall of mars, but this sign is of the element that is the weakest in my chart. Would doing a mars square in this sign strengthen the element even if mars is not in its home or exaltation here? I was thinking of making affirmations with a spiritual square directly related to increasing the element of my natal mars.

I have made observations before in other posts that doing planetary squares helps with increasing the element it has as well, but i am basically wondering if this is even more so if mars is in someones natal sign, as long as it is not in its detriment or fall during this time of doing the square. Just curious.

I have done Mars workings in Leo and Sagittarius and it wasn't too bad but I don't really recommend Mars that much in an element unfavorable to it (your Mars) Mars likes fire element the best.

It wouldn't make or break your Mars return my Mars is in Detriment if I did this working during that it wouldn't help it very much I don't know what that would do but you don't have to do the working during the return. However you can I can't I don't think at least without risking something negative probably.
