Correction it can be done just like any other planet as well as the sun can be done in a sign thats not fall or detriment. It would have some effect but considering how big the moon square is this is probably a huge waste of effort and time. Your better off waiting for it to be in Taurus or Cancer. With the Sun or Mars or Jupiter or something ok but knowing how much less strong the squares are outside of home and exalted this would be a huge waste of time for moon. You can still get what you want many times but the amount of effort put in makes moon not worth it to do this with.
The Mars, Moon, Venus and Saturn squares have the most transformative impact over you in the specific way, if used properly. The Moon and Venus probably moreso. If you have the dedication, they are probably the best squares to do to really get you on track but would have to be combined with other equally intensive meditations and extra effort from you, especially with Saturn- where the only help is that the square is fairly short. I think it's interesting to note that the Moon is the longest square whereas Saturn the shortest, as their signs are opposite one another.
The Moon square should be all about timing, so I would suggest the absolute best time and no less. Moon in Pisces within the 2nd decan is more viable than any of the other spots in Pisces, but would have to be on the day of the Moon and begin at the hour of the Moon either way. Then you would have to make sure to follow suit for a large portion of the following days until about a month and a bit through, then you could start paying less mind to it. Ideally you would start this within Cancer or Taurus though, and because the moon cycles fast, you'll have more ideal times and you can do alternate meditations which accomplish the Moon squares function to the same effect until the time comes.
The Moon should be one of the most powerful ones as it should improve your cognitive functions directly, whereas Saturn would empower the external material pressures which force your cognitive function into improving hence it being known to be malefic. If you program it to not cause disaster and have a strong enough will and personal intent to see it through, it will have a similar function as a Moon square in that light, but with more of a grounding and experiential type of cognitive improvement- not exactly through energy. The Moon though for having a higher spiritual connection is invaluable compared to others, being the only purely spiritual water type of square you can even do.
(other than Jupiter which as a planet, doesn't specify itself onto any chakra specifically, it's crown chakra is also co-ruled by Neptune whereas the Moon's chakra the 6th is purely ruled by the Moon).
Before you do the Moon square you need to be assured you have a strong Solar function as in the chakra, as this concerns timing and willpower that will enable you to make your lengthy Moon square land in the first place. You don't want to spend all that time for no reason. Think of this as the sign of Cancer being your moon square, when you start it, after a while your willpower is tested. The sign that comes after Cancer is Leo the fixed sign- the Sun, willpower and timing. This is the most important section of a Moon square because this is where you either give up/refuse to go properly into your mind, or turn it's 'on' switch and actually start making progress. Then after you have turned on this switch, you have the next sign Virgo which is mutable and to do with perfection and correcting faults, organisation. This should reflect the final active process of a Moon square in mental consolidation and cleansing and by the time the square is finished, Libra the next sign over should represent the completed vision and cycle of what you wanted to recreate within your own mental images and associations to the world, beauty, justice for yourself and whatnot.
Conversely, if you know you have the dedication nonetheless- do it anyhow but it helps to have strong spiritual functions you can use during your Moon square meditations.
