Help detaching a psychic vampire

Today, I intend to detach a person from my aura who I recently discovered to be a psychic vampire. On the JoS website, it says to go into a trance, and later to deal astrally with the connections. Does this mean to project astrally and deal with it, or does it mean I should just feel it automatically? I'm confused. Also, it requires invoking the fire element, which I've never done before, and I'm also completely new to astral projection. Should I learn to do this better and wait until the 23rd or so? Thank you.
