So, how does one obtain a familiar? And do we get to choose the animal as which they come?

There are two kinds of Familiars. Some are solely on the astral plane, others are incarnated in an animal on the physical plane or in some other form or are animals with special astral states as they have to be able to have and work with an astral connection to you.

Make sure to meditate and help yourself, Father Satan wants people to help themselves before asking for things. If you are meditating, ask Father to send you a familiar. You may not get it for a while, and either way people tend to require much meditation and magical training before they can even be sure something is their familiar. If something is your familiar you should be able to feel its connection you with no doubt. To know for sure, you would need to be able to observe the astral plane, or have some other magical means to know.

However, Father may send you an astral familiar, though, you would not know for sure unless you can experience the astral plane, or Father tells you himself.

As for the animal, I would think Father would have the familiar incarnate into an animal you would likely buy or manifest situations in which you would obtain the familiar, or someone send to you an animal that would have an affinity with you and has the appropriate astral states.

Cats, dogs, horses, and other animals can be familiars.  Familiars A familiar is an animal that is a gift from Satan to one of his disciples. This animal forms an extremely tight and loving bond with the owner. The animal is different from other animals in that he/she is inhabited by a Demon. They also serve as psychic radar, visibly reacting to the presence of any unwelcome or negative energy. The pet dog of a High Priest viciously growled and snarled, with his hair bristled when the presence of an angel was detected and warned his owner of this unwanted presence. The protection goes both ways. The owner will also be psychically protective towards his/her familiar. The bond here is a strong as parent to child. In contrast to all of the enemy claims and horror stories, Satan holds animals in high regard and wishes for his people to treat them with much respect. In the Al Jilwah, he states, "The beasts of the earth, the birds of heaven, and the fish of the sea are all under the control of my hands." One of the reasons for the rampant spread of the bubonic plague (Black Death) in Europe during the 14th century was the xian church declared cats to be of the Devil and people killed them en masse. This left the rat population to explode at an alarming rate and the fleas that were common to rats spread the plague.

I recently found two stray black kittens living in the woods near my house. This was a few days after I asked Father Satan to send me a familiar. Do you think this is just a coincidence or could they be familiars?

It's good to get kittens or pets in twos, that way they have each other for company when the human guardian is not at home.Of course, you might want to consider not leaving toilet paper out in the open. Lol.
