You have to see what best suits your life needs in this kind of thing. In fact, if you have an altar you are very lucky. When I do a standard ritual I don't even have an altar to do it on (and anyway it works very well, I *feel* that Father Satan is listening to me in those rituals). It's really a good thing that you have any kind of altar Whether you have to take it apart or have it fixed really makes no difference.
