can fear be a good thing?

Fear is basically a mechanism for warning of danger, which is necessary. We must be brave, not fearless.

"Bravery does not mean being devoid of fear, foolish actions, or forethought. In fact, we must learn to be brave enough to develop proper action, conduct, and act with forethought instead of following the easy path of mindlessness." —Baalzebul's Virtue, Bravery

If you stand on the edge off a deep cliff, or face similar life-threatening choices if "taken the wrong steps", no matter how brave/skilled you are without fulfilling a higher purpose like defending someone, then yes.

One could argue, a true higher being doesn't need fear, as stupid choices shouldn't be possible.

Fear is necessary when it comes to evolution. I dont talk about Spritual evolution (Magnum Opus) but evolution in material Plane.

But when we comes to Spritual Plane, no fear is not necessary, but harmful.

Fear is a combination of sensations.

Adrenaline is released, your heart beats faster, your hairs stand up, you may sweat, you’re taken out of whatever thoughts are happening in your head and your full attention is in the present moment.

Fear is strength entering the body you can use that strength to run away but fear does not equal cowardice.

Physical fear is a mechanism that exists so that we can protect ourselves from physical dangers. Then there is the psychological fear created by constant thoughts of something that might happen but hasn't. This is where one can control this part through daily meditation especially the void meditation
