Awakning The Chakras

Hey guys I have a couple of questions about chakras.

First: Where exactly are they located? the spine?

Second: If they are located in our spine, When we meditate to activate them, should we "feel" the energy of the chakras in our spine or on the surface of our body or just the center of our body?
