Its not that big of a deal,use what u got.if all u got is a plastic butterknife i guess it works too,i use a machete looking one and i see no probs with it.Cheers

Does the looks of it matter? I'm new and was wondering? i wanted to work on putting together an alter. so far all i have is a few candles and the knife. i was just wondering if kind of knife mattered? i mostly wanted to use it as my athame because i pricked my finger with it for my dedication ritual, but if its not acceptable then ill try to find something else.
